St. John's Cathedral has held its annual Fun Fair for local charities every year since 1946. Set up in the spacious grounds of the Cathedral under brightly coloured awnings, in the last week of October every year, the Fair offers fun and games, entertainment, gifts and shopping for adult and child alike.

Our aim is to generate a million dollars from the Fair to help 20 needy, local charities. How do we manage this?

We ask our Cathedral membership and generous supporters of our work in the local community to

  • sponsor one or more of our 32 fair stalls for HK$1,000 each; thus enabling us to offset the cost of buying and setting up the stalls, of decorating them and running them; and
  • sponsor one of the 12 entertainment programmes for HK$10,000. These include a magic show, energetic games for children and adults , full brass bands and talented dancing troupes.

A sponsor of a stall may have their name/company name/logo displayed on the stall. The sponsor of entertainment will have their identity prominently displayed in fair notices and at the entertainment venue.

Sponsors or donors who give over HK$11,000 will be invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Fair as a guest-of-honour, as well as having their name or company name/logo put in notices for the Fair, in Fair announcements and on Fair stalls.

The Charities we are sponsoring include St. John's Cathedral HIV Education Centre, St. John's Cathedral Public Counseling Service, Hong Kong Youth Outreach, St. James Settlement; for poor, physically and mentally handicapped children. The Ebeneezer Home for the Blind, St. Christopher's Home for orphan and unwanted children.

The Fair stalls will provide games , traditional ‘White Elephant’ picks, second hand books, theatre and costume jewellery, flowers and plants , handicrafts, home produce, bric-a-brac, CDs records and magazines, face painting, lucky dip, hot and cold foods, wine, beer and coffee and quite a bit more.

Entertainment we are hoping to offer includes The Swiss-German International School Jazz Band, Bernard Mariano the Magician, Monsieur le trick Cyclist, The such-and-such(one name will do) Girls School dancing troupe a Bouncy castles –and a priest in the stocks.

For a complete and up to date list of stalls and entertainments available to interested sponsors and donors.

We are a registered charity and all donations and sponsorships will be receipted for tax purposes. Cheques should be made out to "St. John's Cathedral" and endorsed on the back with the words 'Michaelmas Fair’
