Second Provincial Sports and Games Day
The Second Provincial Sports and Games Day of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui will be held on 16th October 2010 (Saturday, Chung Yeung Festival Holiday) at St Stephen‘s College in Stanley, Hong Kong. It is hoped that by the various group rallies, sports and inter-church games, members of the congregation may relax and stretch on one hand while strengthen the fellowship among the parishes, mission churches and different provincial bodies on the other, so to witness the unity of the Church. The preparation work of the event is in progress. Promotion and registration materials will be delivered later. All members of the church congregation are invited to participate on the day and to offer your prayer support.

After a short break in Summer, the Christians in Central - Tuesday Luncheon will resume back on 7th September, at 1:00p.m. in the Li Hall of St John's Cathedral. The Revd Desmond Cox and Miss Elijah Fung will talk to us on "The AIDS epidemic and challenges". You may recall our first Christians in Central started in July 2001, (Topic : The Jesus Prayer) made by our former Chaplain - the Revd Frank Nelson, who is now the Dean of Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, New Zealand, it is now the 9th Anniversary and the Very Revd Frank Nelson will be coming to speak to us again on 6th July 2010 at 1:00p.m. in the Li Hall, the topic is : Faith in the City (Theology in the Public Square).

Walking the Labyrinth is a spiritual exercise that leads you to reflect on your Christian journey through life, and come close to God. From 10am-12noon you can walk the labyrinth in the garden at St John's Cathedral, or in the Li Hall next door if it's wet.

ANNUAL CHURCH MEETING 2010 (ACM 2010) To be held on Sunday 25th April at 1.00pm in the Li Hall
1) Please be advised that all qualified lectors wishing their name to appear in the Electoral Roll must complete an Electoral Roll Declaration form and deliver or send it to the Cathedral Office, All forms must be received by the Cathedral Office by 5.00pm on Friday 16th April for inclusion in the Electoral Roll for the purpose of the ACM 2010.
2) Reports, audited accounts et cetera should be completed and delivered to the Cathedral Office for the printing of the ACM bundle by 5.00pm on Tuesday 13th April.
3) Registered voting members should collect their ACM 2010 bundle from the Cathedral Office, or through the Priest-in-Charge of each daughter church, on Sunday 18th or Sunday 25th April.
4) Nomination forms for Election to the Cathedral Council 2010/2011 are available at the Cathedral Office.
Awareness Course
You may remember Father Nadim Nassar who preached at St John's Cathedral last year. Nadim is the Director of the Awareness Foundation in London. The Awareness Foundation was established to help people make sense of their faith and culture in the 21st century, with a belief that religious extremism in the world can be defeated by greater understanding among religions and peoples, and by helping to nurture an environment where people can live together in peace.
Starting on April 21st and continuing until June 9th, we will be running the Awareness Course: Citizens of Two Kingdoms, on Wednesday evenings from 7pm at St John's Cathedral. To join the course, please email the Dean's Secretary, Elisa: dean@stjohnscathedral.org.hk

Healing Service
A calm and soothing Eucharist with the laying on of hands for healing will be held on Sunday 11th April at 6.00pm. If you have something that concerns you, or for someone else or for some crisis in the world please come to this service and receive the laying on of hands in a gentle way followed by anointing with Holy Oil of Chrism. All welcome.

Christians in Central - Tuesday Luncheon
Our next Christians in Central - Tuesday Luncheon will be presented by the pilgrims who took part in the pilgrimage to the Holy Land in last October. Three pilgrims led by Mr. Jeremy Gadbury will speak on the pilgrimage and a slide show will be presented by Mrs Tessa Walker. It will be held on 9th March (Tuesday) in the Li Hall at 1:00p.m., and this time, we are going to experience a simple lunch by serving sandwiches and soup. Michaelmas Fair Walkathon
This Year's Walkathon is set for Sunday 28 February. The walk to the Peak is the opening event of the Annual Michaelmas Fair and an important fund raiser. Those who wish to take part can collect sponsorship forms from the Cathedral office. This year the Chairman of the Michaelmas Fair Organizing Committee and several committee members will form a team and are seeking sponsors for a record breaking ascent. Members of ‘ The Team ’ will be waiting outside the Cathedral after services in the coming month to request you to sign up. A pledge of $100 is tax deductable, but of course we would like you to add a zero or two to that!
LENT PILGRIMAGE 2010
A Journey to the Heart of Lent – Saturday 27th February
Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre, which is situated just outside Shatin, and is a centre for Christian Spirituality and Retreats in an environment of Chinese Christianity. The day is for all members of St John’s Cathedral and the daughter churches. The Revd David Pickering and the Revd Robert Martin will lead the day. Leaving by coach/minibus from the cathedral at 9.15am and returning by 4.30.pm. Travel direction are available for this travelling by private car.

Every Friday from 19th February until 26th March Join us for a simple lunch with tea and coffee in the Li Hall from 1.15-2.15pm! Cost of lunch by donation. All proceeds will go to ministries of St John’s.

Tuesday Luncheon in the Li Hall on 9th February 2010 1.00 pm
Kids and teens today are facing three major challenges in their daily lives outside of school performance and family activities: the temptation, experimentation and abuse of alcohol, drugs and the internet. Our next Tuesday Luncheon, spoken by Dr. Mark Gandolfi will provide a realistic, scientific and easy-to-understand presentation as to why kids “go under the influence” of drugs, alcohol and internet as well as a detailed look at the drugs of choice kids use in Hong Kong and worldwide. Finally, the talk will provide attendees with some practical advice on what a parent can do when kids get in trouble and what resources are available in Hong Kong.
Dr. Mark Gandolfi is the Executive Director and Clinical Psychologist at St. John’s Counselling Service, and also a Clinical Supervisor for Hong Kong University, City University (Hong Kong) and Monash University (Australia) students in graduate studies in psychology. Dr. Gandolfi is a clinical advisor to various detox-rehab centres in Thailand and the Philippines, and has over 25 years experience in working with substance abuse patients, schools and healthcare organizations in dealing with abuse and addiction disorders.
