Message from the Dean

14 Jul 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings in the name of the Lord!
After a relatively calm period of the outbreak of COVID-19, the pandemic has now encroached on us again with a much bigger threat. Our fear and anxiety have returned. This is the time we need to recall the words of Jesus. ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.’ John 14:27. While it is imperative that we heighten our health measures, spiritually and emotionally we allow the peace of Christ to dominate our hearts and minds.
For the health and safety of all and in compliance with the government’s regulations, all Cathedral worship services will be suspended again until further notice effective 15th July 2020. Please join our worship through the webcast services. Please note that all Cathedral gatherings and activities with more than 4 persons are also suspended. However, the Cathedral remains open for private prayers, for devotion and for seeking solace. Please consult our website for the opening hours and webcast service schedule.
In a time like this, do set aside extra time to read the scriptures and to pray. Counting God’s blessings every day is also important. It is in Christ we can find hope and the strength needed to persevere. While many feel isolated due to social distancing and many are suffering due to the economic impact, please do make a point to reach out to all those who are lonely, depressed and frustrated. Christ has not left us and we are the agents of hope for many.
As the rapid spread of the virus continues locally and globally, my heart goes out to all those who have become afflicted and those who grieve the loss of loved ones. Please join me by praying earnestly for them. May God’s special protection also be on all those who put their lives on the line to save and care for the sick, and on those working tirelessly to develop a vaccine.
The Cathedral clergy are here to listen and to offer support. Should you wish to talk to any one of us, please do not hesitate to contact the Cathedral office.
May God bless us all!
Dean Matthias
