Consecration of Dean Matthias Der as Bishop Co-adjutor

09 Sep 2020

It will soon be time to say ‘Thank You’ and ‘Farewell’ to Dean Matthias, and to wish him well in his new ministry as Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island. His Bishop’s seat will be at St John’s Cathedral so we will continue to benefit from his leadership.

As a token of appreciation for Matthias’ ministry at St John’s, we are appealing for donations for a farewell gift to be presented to him at his Consecration as Bishop Co-adjutor on 3rd October 2020 Saturday at 3.00pm. (Please join us at the service which will be live-streamed on the website of the Province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui.)

Dean Matthias’ remarkable gift is to be a unifier of our disparate congregations, outreach programmes, and ministries. He has proven to be a wise leader who has helped navigate our ship through our 170th anniversary celebrations, the social movements, and more recently the COVID-19 pandemic. He has done so with a clear vision for our Cathedral which is ‘a place of God’s grace, welcoming all, following Christ and changing lives in the heart of Hong Kong.’

We wish him every good wish and blessing in his new role, and hope you will contribute generously to this appeal.
